Donnie Ray Earls, 65 of Eckerman, passed away peacefully at his home with loving family by his side on Saturday September 24, 2011. Donnie was born December 6, 1945 in Martin, Tennessee, son of Charles “Pug” and Thelma (Hargrove) Earls. He was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, a veteran of the United States Army and, while a Merchant Marine, sailed the Great Lakes, many ocean bodies and seas around the world until his retirement. Donnie loved the water whether it was sailing the ships, fishing in his brother’s boat or sitting on shore fishing with his grandchildren. Donnie is preceded in death by his parents and his infant son Gabriel.
Survivors include his wife, the former Carol Kabelman, of Eckerman, whom he married on March 8, 2006 in Hulbert; sons Donnie Earls, Daniel Earls, Rob Stevens, Ron (Becky) Harding and David Earls; daughters Eva (Jed) Earls and Jessie Harding and 12 loving grandchildren.
Also surviving are his siblings Charles “Eddie” Earls, Richard (Susan) Earls, David Earls, Sandy McLean, Cheryl “Sue” (Rod) Ellison and Debra Heath-Giddis; father-in-law & special friend Kenneth Kabelman; brother-in-laws Pete (Sheryl) Kabelman, Bill (Lela) Kabelman and Donnie (Terry) Kabelman; sister-in-laws Barb Kabelman, Laura (Ed) Gorentz and Beth Nichols; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Strongs Community Bible Church in Strongs on Friday September 30, 2011 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the church with Pastor Daryl Hopper officiating. Interment will take place at Coburn Cemetery in Strongs.
