SAULT STE. MARIE – The Sault Blue Devils got into early trouble in both games of their Straits Area Conference doubleheader against the Rogers City Hurons on Tuesday at Locey Field and it cost them as the Hurons swept the home team. The Hurons won 9-4 in the opener and took an 8-6 win in the nightcap.

In the first game the Hurons scored three in the first and added three more in the second off losing pitcher Megan Jean. She allowed eight runs on 12 hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings. She struck out nine. Alyssa Holt finished up for the Devils, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.

At the plate, Marisa Gonyeau led the Sault with a solo home run, while Jackie Holt doubled. Kayla Johnston, Alexa Jones and Payton Salomon each singled.

In the second game the early innings were once again trouble for the home team. Rogers City put up four runs in the first two innings and took a 4-2 lead after two. The Sault threatened in the top of the sixth but the rally was cut short when a ball that would have been a single to right field instead hit a Sault baserunner for the final out.

Jenna Sanderson took the loss for the Sault, giving up 10 hits and five walks, while striking out two.

Salomon was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3, while Jean was 2-for-3, including a three-run homer and a triple. Kylee Fitzpatrick was 3-for-4, and Johnston was 2-for-3. Jackie Harwood and Jones singled in the loss.

The Sault (6-5-2 overall, 4-2 SAC), will travel to Gladstone on Thursday
