James E. Sattler, 80, of Engadine, died Tuesday morning November 23, 2010 at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.
Born August 13, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Robert & Mary (Patton) Sattler, James was a graduate of Hughes High School in Cincinnati. He attended the Cincinnati Art Academy and enlisted in the United States Air Force during World War II. During his time in the service, he continued his education at Purdue University where he received a bachelor’s degree and was commissioned as a pilot until his honorable discharge in 1947, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. On June 21, 1948 he married the former Ethel Helferich in Cincinnati, Ohio. James was employed as a designer with Ford Motor Company in Dearborn for 27 years until his retirement in 1982. James has been a resident of the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club for the past 25 years and his interests included golfing, hunting, archery and skiing.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sister Judith and brother Robert.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ethel, of Engadine; children Gail (Dave) Roslonski of Clarkston, Ted (Julie) Sattler of Petoskey and Jean (Steve) Chambers of Rochester Hills, MI; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Per his request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.
