It was a terribly sobering situation to be involved in. I would just like to thank all of my fellow officers that so bravely put themselves in harms way with no regard for their personal safety. It is an honor to work with such people. It’s moments like these that you learn who will be there for you, and it’s moments like these that infuriate me when I hear that we are no more than “over paid babysitters”. The next time you find yourself or hear others talking badly about Corrections Officers, remember this incident, where we saved a life.

I’ve heard and read a few accounts on this story but how did the prisoner get the weapons? BTW…I respect those of you who place yourselves in danger everyday that you go to work. Thank you for doing such a great job for us. The problems at our prisons in the US are very minimal thanks to corrections officers doing their jobs.

Lynne, I am just speaking from general knowledge, not this particular incident, but the prisoners can make or steal things that could be used as weapons.

      Thanks for comment Nate!

Prisoners can fashion weapons from any number of things. They just sharpen scrap pieces of metal that they break off of anything and everything. A popular one is a metal rod from inside of a typewriter.

I think the kinross facility is overcrowded, out of order and they are mixing the bad criminals with the criminals that made mistakes and do want to do right but they cant because of other inmates behavior. There are gaurds there that provoke the inmates and allow other inmates to provoke inmates. This place needs to be shut down before alot of people get hurt..
