Sugar Island Fire and EMS, practiced emergency shuttling of people off of the island this morning with the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
Chippewa Co Sheriff’s Office used both the Hovercraft and the Emergency Rescue Airboat.
We were practicing options to prepare for those times the ferry is not able to run. We have identified what should work in emergency situations.
The only snag we had was when the Airboat parked on the slush near the island shore. The airboat froze in and it took a bit to get it going.
The Hovercraft ran very well. Overall it was a great training day working together with all the agencies.
Members of the U.S. Coast Guard road along with the Sheriff’s Office.
We train. so we can learn.
The residents on the. Island are a little safer after today’s exercise.
