Earlier today, (3/4/2020) The Rudyard Area School Administration received information that a student possibly had a handgun at the school. The Chippewa County School Liaison Deputy Sheriff responded to the school and met with the School Administration.
The school had located the suspect student and detained him. At this time school administration had found an imitation (look-a-like) type handgun in the students backpack.
Further investigation found that the suspect had threatened to shoot another student and shoot up the school. This is what prompted the notification to the school administration.
The 17 year old suspect was taken into custody and was found to already be on Probation here in Chippewa County. The suspect was lodged in the Chippewa County Correctional Facility on a probation violation and additional charges are expected. This investigation is ongoing and a report will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.
I would like to commend the Rudyard Area School administration for their prompt actions and contacting law enforcement in this matter.
It is incidents such as this that reinforces the need for the School Resource programs and Deputies in our schools to further ensure student safety.
