Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order prohibiting all gatherings of more than 250 people in a “single shared space” as well as all events of more than 250 people starting at 5 p.m. today and continuing through 5 p.m. April 5.
Ms. Whitmer said there are exemptions for industrial or manufacturing work, mass transit and the purchase of groceries or consumer goods.
The executive order says a “single shared space includes but is not limited to a room, hall, cafeteria, auditorium, theater or gallery.”
The executive order says a willful violation of the order is a misdemeanor.
“This is about protecting the most people we can from the spread of coronavirus,” Ms. Whitmer said in a statement. “My administration will continue to do everything we can to mitigate the spread, and to ensure our children, families, and businesses have the support they need during this time. We are going to get through this, but we must be flexible and take care of each other.”
