George Julius Lucas Jr., age 91, died peacefully at his home on Island # 8 in Cedarville, Michigan, on May 23, 2020, under the loving care of his family and hospice of Maclaren Hospital.
George was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 5, 1929, to Julius George and Vivian Marie (Lemble) Lucas. He grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan, and graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1947. He went to work for McLouth Steel Incorporated. He married his High School Sweetheart, Betty Jean Christie, in 1947 at the Methodist Church in River Rouge, Michigan by Reverend Sawyer, they raised six children. They purchased property in Cedarville on Island 8 in 1965 and commenced to build their retirement home. They moved there permanently in
1983 when he retired.
George and Betty were members of First Union Church of Cedarville. He loved to duck hunt with his sons, and camp at Munouscong State Park. They also loved fishing and hunting small game.
George is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Betty; sons, George III (Linda) Lucas of Orion, Michigan, Gerald (Vicki) Lucas of Southgate, Michigan, Jason Lucas of Houghton Lake, Michigan and Michael Lucas of Hampton, Virginia; daughter, Lynn (Thomas) Majeske of Southgate; 18 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Sikora of Rowlett, Texas; and brother-in-law, Robert (Doris) Christie of Cedarville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Lucas Wigginton in July 2013; and sister, Eileen Hensley.
Final resting place will be Edgewood Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville.
