Madelyn Marie Stephens, age 93, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on May 4, 2020, in St. Ignace. She was born on August 7, 1926, in River Rouge, Michigan, to Edward and Margaret “Nellie” (Reno) Lozon.
Maddy grew up in Charles, Michigan, moving to River Rouge, Michigan, in eleventh grade. She went to beauty school and worked as a beauty operator for several years. She then became a waitress, and worked mostly at Sibley Gardens Restaurant in Trenton, Michigan, for 35 years. Maddy raised her family in Trenton and Wyandotte, Michigan, and moved to St. Ignace after she retired in 1990.
Maddy was a grand regent member of the W.O.T.M chapter 1484, Moose Lodge #999 in St. Ignace and a founding member of the women’s division of the Eagles in Ecorse, Michigan. Maddy was also a member of the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church.
Maddy loved to spend her free time volunteering at the Moose Lodge that she loved. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, cross words, and being in her flower garden.
Maddy is survived by her daughters, Ann Smithson of Smithville, Tennessee, and Madelynn Dionne of St. Ignace; grandchildren, Yvette (Robert) Woodworth, Michelle (Dan) Yeider, Fred Hastings, and Clint Swindell; great-grandchildren, Brittany Woodworth, Jessie Zink, and Freddy Hastings; and sister, Elaine (Joe) Mann of Alabama.
Maddy was preceded in death by her parents; son, William Edward Dionne; and brother, Edward “Buzz” Lozon.
A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
