Residents near the Straits of Mackinac, Soo Locks, Harbor Springs, and Petoskey will soon have the chance to ask Michigan House of Representatives candidates for the 107th district their stances on environmental and conservation issues.
Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council is partnering with Michigan Environmental Council to host a virtual candidate forum from 6 – 7 p.m. Monday on Zoom. Residents of Chippewa, Emmet, and Mackinac counties and parts of Cheboygan County can register for free at environmentalcouncil.org/events_107. No Zoom account is needed.
MEC President and CEO Conan Smith will ask candidates their stances or plans on numerous issues, such as public lands, public health, and water quality and protection. Attendees may then ask their own questions of the candidates.
All candidates from the 107th district have been invited. Democrats Jim Page and Kurt Perron and Republicans Terry Lamb and Kathy Twardy are confirmed. Once the Aug. 4 primary election concludes, the Democrat and Republican winners of the primary will vie for the seat left open by term-limited Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield.
