Wear your face mask at Mackinac Bridge toll booths.
The bridge Twitter account, run by the Michigan Department of Transportation, issued the call on Tuesday, saying drivers need the coverings during transactions, “even though it takes just a few seconds.”
“Our collectors interact with thousands of customers each day, so please — for their safety and yours — wear a mask when you reach the toll booth,” the tweet read.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s face mask mandate took effect July 13 in the fight against the further spread of the novel coronavirus.
The executive order requires masks in indoor public spaces, in public or hired transportation including while waiting for public transportation, and when a distance of 6 feet can’t be maintained outside with people outside a person’s household.
In May alone, 222,071 vehicles crossed the bridge between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas, according to the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
