After a Friday night loss to rival Sault High, the St. Ignace Saints girls’ basketball team has rolled off three straight wins, including on Tuesday night, as they cruised to a 62-28 win over Cheboygan, in Straits Area Conference play. The Saints topped Newberry on Monday night, 77-33, as they are now 2-1 in conference play. St. Ignace (3-2) will host Marquette on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
In other girls’ basketball action from Tuesday night, Cedarville improved to 2-1 in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference, as they travelled to Newberry and defeated the Indians, 53-46. Cedarville (2-1) will host Hillman on Thursday, while Newberry (1-4) is at Cheboygan on Thursday for a Straits Area Conference game. Rudyard cruised to a 62-15 win at DeTour. Rudyard (2-2) will be at Sault High on Thursday night. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO, with Dave Watson and Ray Bell, starting with the pregame show at 7:00 p.m. DeTour (0-2) hosts Engadine on Thursday. Engadine (1-2) fell at home on Tuesday night against Manistique, 37-34. The Sault High/Brimley game scheduled for Tuesday night was cancelled, due to lack of officials.
Pickford earned their first win of the season in boys’ basketball from Tuesday night, as they topped Brimley, 63-50, at the Purple Palace in Pickford in Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference play. Pickford (1-2) is at Brimley (0-2) on Friday.
In other boys’ basketball from Tuesday, Cheboygan improved to 3-0 in Straits Area Conference play, as they earned a 61-58 win in St. Ignace. The Saints (2-2) host DeTour on Thursday. Engadine lost their first game of the season on Tuesday, falling to Manistique, 46-24. Engadine (1-1) is at Mid-Peninsula on Monday.
On Wednesday night in area boys’ basketball, Sault High travels to Escanaba, DeTour hosts Rudyard, and Cedarville is at Hillman.
High School hockey on Wednesday night, Sault High (1-1) will also travel to Escanaba, to take on the Eskymos. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO starting with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
