The Sault High Blue Devil girls’ basketball team improved to 8-0 on Wednesday night, as they defeated the St. Ignace Saints for the second time this season, winning 45-36. The Blue Devils are ranked #5 in the State in Division 2 in the latest poll, and avenged their only loss last season to the Saints, holding a virtual lock on the Straits Area Conference title. Sault High will be at Alpena on Friday, while St. Ignace (4-3) is home to Escanaba on Friday.

In other girls’ basketball from Wednesday night, the Pickford Panthers join both Rudyard and Cedarville a top the Eastern Upper Peninsula standings at 4-1, as they routed winless DeTour, 70-16, at the Purple Palace. Pickford (5-2) is at Engadine on Friday. DeTour (0-6) is home to Cedarville on Tuesday. Cedarville won an EUP Conference game on the road, knocking off Brimley, 72-53, for their fifth win in a row. Cedarville (5-1) is at Pickford on Monday night, while Brimley (1-4) will be home to Rudyard on Tuesday. Newberry had no trouble with Munsing, as they earned a 58-25 home win over the Mustangs. Newberry (3-6) is at Engadine on Tuesday.

The St. Ignace Saints knocked off the Sault High Blue Devils in boys’ basketball on Wednesday, 65-62 in overtime.
