Bulldogs come back to knock off Trojans in regional semifinal (with photos)

The Rudyard Bulldogs girls’ basketball team staged a big comeback in their Division 4, Region 26 semifinal game on Monday night, as they overcame an 18-point deficit, to knock off the Cedarville Trojans, 59-46 at the Sault High Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs, down 18 in the first half, were led by Chesney Molina, who scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers. Tristin Smith added 13 points for Rudyard, while Brooklyn Besteman had 11. Cedarville was led by Alina Shook and Lily Fisher, with 12 points each, as they end their season at 11-3. You can hear the podcast of the game at Rudyard vs Cedarville.

Rudyard (11-5) advances to the regional final in Wolverine on Wednesday night, where they will take on Mackinaw City (18-2). The Comets ran past Posen, 78-50 in the other semifinal. You can hear that game on Country 105, with Scott Nason and Ray Bell, starting with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.

The Sault High Blue Devil girls’ basketball team had their season come to an end on Monday night, as the Escanaba Eskimos won, 78-68, in a Division 2, Region 9 semifinal in Manistique. Escanaba (13-4) advances to the regional final in Houghton Lake on Wednesday, where they will meet Ludington (14-4). Claire Erickson had 20 points for the Blue Devils, who end their season at 14-2. The St. Ignace Saints girls’ basketball team had no trouble with Alcona on Monday night, as their cruised to an 80-24 win over Alcona, in a Division 3, Region 17 semifinal game at the Iggyzone. In that game, Hallie Marshall passed 1000 career points for the Saints. St. Ignace (14-4) will face Calumet (18-0) in their regional final on Wednesday in Sault Ste. Marie at 7:00 pm.

The Rudyard Bulldogs (15-2) boys’ basketball team will host a Division 4, Region 26 semifinal game on Tuesday at 7:00 pm, as they face Mackinaw City (14-4). You can hear that game on Country 105, with Scott Nason and Ray Bell, starting with the pregame show at 7:00 pm. The winner of that game, will face the winner of the other semifinal between Onaway (13-3) and Alanson (13-7), on Thursday in Pellston at 7:00 pm.
