The Sault High Blue Devils and St. Ignace Saints girls’ basketball teams both claimed district titles on the road on Friday night, joining the Rudyard Bulldogs and Cedarville Trojans, as teams advancing to next week’s regionals.
The Sault had no trouble with host Cheboygan in their Division 2, District 34 final, as they cruised to their third district crown in four years, knocking off the Chiefs, 73-34. Sault High (14-1) advances to Monday’s regional semifinal in Manistique, as they will face Escanaba (12-4) at 7:00 pm. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO with Dave Watson and Ray Bell, starting with the tip-off show at 6:45 pm. The winner of that game will take on either Ludington (13-4) or Standish-Sterling (16-4), in Wednesday’s regional final in Houghton Lake at 7:00 pm.

The St. Ignace Saints girls’ basketball team is no stranger to district titles, and won another one on Friday night at Johannesburg-Lewiston, as they topped the Cardinals 53-37, in the Division 3, District 67 final. St. Ignace (13-4) advances to a regional semifinal game against Alcona (12-4) on Monday night at 7:00 pm, at a site to be determined. The winner of that game will take on either Calumet (17-0) or Menominee (13-0) in Wednesday’s regional final in Sault Ste. Marie at 7:00 pm.
Rudyard (10-5) will face Cedarville (11-2) in a girls’ basketball Division 4 regional semifinal on Monday night in Sault Ste. Marie. You can hear that game on Country 105, with Scott Nason, starting with the pregame show at 5:15 pm. The winner of that game will take on either Mackinaw City (17-2) or Posen (15-1) in Wednesday’s regional final in Wolverine at 7:00 pm. That game will also be broadcast on Country 105, starting with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.
In boys’ basketball on Saturday night, Pickford (3-11) will host Mackinaw City (13-4) in the Division 4, District 102 final. The Panthers upset Cedarville in their regional semifinal on Thursday, 50-49, on a George Edington shot at the buzzer. Mackinaw City topped DeTour, 63-54, in the other semifinal from Thursday. Rudyard (14-2) will travel to Newberry (8-7) for their district final in Divison 4, District 101 on Saturday night at 7:00 pm. The Bulldogs easily defeated Ojibway Charter, 78-18 in a district semifinal from Thursday night. The Indians topped Engagine, 52-22 in their semifinal.
The winners of tonight’s games will meet in Rudyard on Tuesday night for a regional semifinal game. You can hear that game on Country 105, with Scott Nason, starting with the pregame show at 7:00 pm.
