On May 2nd 2021 Nicholas Leo Ferro, Jr. closed the chapter of this existence and moved on to the next.
Nick was born January 13, 1959 in Hillsdale, MI. He graduated Hillsdale High School in 1977 and went on to marry his long time love Gigi Easterday in 1982.
In his lifetime he accomplished anything he set his mind to and always by his own rules. Nick started his career as a car salesman, which brought out the best in his gift for talking to people. He could genuinely talk to anyone about anything. When angered about local politics, Nick sprang into action and was elected Mayor of Hillsdale in 1989. Elected twice, he stepped down in his second term due to health issues. From this point he moved on to be the Director of Development for Hillsdale Hospital. In 1998 he continued his career in philanthropy and moved his family to Sault Ste. Marie, MI where he worked for Bay Mills Community College in fundraising and planning for 20 years, until his retirement. He was an excellent writer, speaker, and businessman. He also had an amazing talent for officiating marriages and wed many couples, including officiating for his own daughter. Nick never stepped away from a problem or a debate. He was the first person to call with an issue and always had a way to solve it. He was a compassionate person and took excellent care of his wife and daughters. Nick was an avid reader, and in his retirement, a great fisherman.
Most importantly he was a beloved Pop Pop to Leo, Elowen, and Ignatious. His grandchildren will attest to the fact he had awesome jokes, great wrestling skills, and absolutely never told them no. He had a larger than life personality and the most giving heart a person could ever have.
In addition to his wonderful grandchildren, Nick will be sorely missed by his wife of nearly 40 years Gigi Ferro, their daughters Asia (John) Frayne and Monique (Gage) Ferro, a sister Dawn (Craig) Klem and two nieces. Nick is also survived by a house full of dogs, a hamster, fish and house plants which will miss him beyond comprehension.
In accordance with Nick’s wishes there will not be a service.
Clark Hovie Galer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
