Carol Peterson

Carol Joyce Peterson, age 93, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Sunday evening, May 16, 2021, at War Memorial Hospital.

Carol was born on February 19, 1928, in Dickie, ND, the daughter of the late Erwin and Sadie (Ebert) Larson.  She graduated from Dickie High School.  On September 3, 1949, she married Gerald “Jerry” Peterson in Adrien, ND.  After moving to Sault Ste. Marie, they owned Peterson Family Shoe Store for many years.  Carol enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, and baking for her family.  She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Carol is survived by her five children: David Peterson of Spring Arbor, Cindy (Kim) Schindler of Pekin, IL, Sally (Rick) Somes of Sault Ste. Marie, Susan (Bruce) Bourque of Atlanta, MI, and Ellen (Frank) Jabour of Interlochen; 12 grandchildren: Scott (Jen) Peterson, Ryan (Ryan) Peterson, Kristen (Chris) Hancock, Ree Somes, Rachel (Jeff) Morency, Benjamin (Jesselyn) Bourque, Adam (Rachel) Bourque, Aubrey Jabour, Celia Jabour, Emma Jabour, Jill(Darren) Schindler, and Melanie(Justin) Riley; and 17 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by two sisters: Sharon Kitzerow of Two Rivers, WI, and Deanna (Jerry) Mangin of Lisbon, ND.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter-in-law: Marietta Peterson; a brother: James Larson; and two sisters: Lois Weber and Joyce Wrighton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with a luncheon to follow.  Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
