ST IGNACE, MI – Troopers from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on the Mackinac Bridge at around 10:30am.
An initial investigation shows that a 78 year old man from Cheboygan was traveling north across the bridge when he crossed the center lane divider and hit an on-coming pickup truck, according to a press release from the MSP.
The pickup truck was being driven by a 39 year old from Newberry.
The driver of the truck and his passengers had minor injuries and were treated at the scene, according to Lt. Mark Giannunzio.
The crash is still under investigation however alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to the press release.
