Soo Indians complete the sweep in home opener weekend vs Green Bay

The Soo Indians Midget AAA Hockey Club hosted the Green Bay Bobcats at the Taffy Abel Arena Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th, and walked away with a pair of wins.

Saturday’s game started with Brandon Vernarsky scoring from the point with a feed from Colin Goff to break the ice and get the Indians on the board in the first period. Just three minutes later Seve Litz banged home a rebound from Goff and Vernarsky to put them up 2-0. In the second period, Alex Freund took the puck to the net beating the the Bobcat netminder, assisted by Goff and Kyle Stevens. Midway through the second period Green Bay found their way scoring three unanswered goals to even the score at three apiece going into the third period. Colin Goff scored on shot putting the Indians back ahead by a goal midway through the third, assisted by Robbie Landis and Alex Freund, which turned out to be enough and Peter Baldwin shut the door in net to preserve the 4-3 win.

The Sunday morning rematch had the Indians jump ahead, again, midway through the first period when Curtis Hubbard scored from the slot on a pass from Grady Coppo for 1-0 lead that they carried to the end of the first period. JT Gollinger got his first of two goals on a shot from in front of the net from Brandon Vernarsky and Coppo, then added his second on a tip from a pass by Robbie Landis for a 3-0 lead, Green Bay answered back on an odd man rush to get back within two goals, however Colin Goff banged in a rebound on a power play shot by Vernarsky, also assisted by Kole Altergott to go up 4-1 late in the period. The third period saw Altergott score a goal of his own set up by Ethan Lindie and Seve Litz buried a one time shot on a nice pass from Lindle for the sixth goal of the game. Cam Labadie turned away 24 of the 25 shots in net to take the 6-1 victory.

The Indians’ next action will be Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 10am at the Taffy Abel Arena when they play the Cleveland Barons. Admission is free so come on out and support the Indians.
