On Sunday September 19, 2021 at approximately 1720 hours St. Ignace Police responded to the intersection of Ellsworth and Marquette for a report of an accident where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. St Ignace Police Officer Rogers arrived on scene and located a lone male with severe injuries in the intersection. Officer Rogers assessed the injured male and began CPR.
The suspect fled the scene, but returned a short while later. Mackinac County Deputies Larson, and Davis along with Sault Tribal Police Officer Sherlund arrived on scene. The additional officers secured the area and assisted with the injured male, the suspect and scene security. An Michigan State Police accident reconstruction team responded to the scene for the reconstruction report.
The victim was transported by Cheboygan Life Support Systems EMS to Spectrum Health in Petoskey and later to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. St. Ignace Fire assisted with scene security and clean up.
The suspect is currently lodged at the Mackinac County Jail.
