The Soo Indians hit the road for the second weekend in a row, this time to challenge Fox Motors in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Saturday evening, the Indians ran into a hot Fox Motors goaltender and an explosive Fox Motors offense. Fox scored four goals in the second period before Colin Goff could score on a feed from Alex Freund and Kylie Steven to get the tribe on the board. That lone goal was all the Indians could muster and they fell 4-1. Cam Labadie took the loss in net for the Soo.
Sunday morning’s game was a bit different. Fox did take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, but Alex Fruend cut that lead in half early in the second assisted by Seve Litz. Late in the second, Fox regained their 2-goal lead and carried it into the third period. Colin Goff (Cole Peterson, Kevin Smith) scored to start the comeback and Kyle Stevens (Jacob Nanna, Robbie Landis) evened the score just :50 seconds later. With 3:19 remaining, Gabe Fisher (Fruend, Scott Vanderhoff) joined the rush and scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal. Peter Baldwin took the win in net for the Indians.
Next week the Soo will be in Marquette at the Berry Events Center to play Victory Honda on Friday afternoon at 1:00 pm. They will return home and play Victory Honda, again, on Saturday at 4:00 pm at the Pullar Stadium and finish the weekend against Victory Honda with the third game of the series on Sunday at 10:00 am at the Taffy Abel Arena.
