The Soo Indians took to the road to play Lake Forest Academy in Midget Major Hockey action this past weekend and split the series.
The Indians jumped out to an early lead when Colin Goff scored just 3 minutes into the game with a setup by Kevin Smith and Ethan Chambers. LFA took advantage of Indian penalties in the second period scoring three power-play goals to take a 3-1 lead after two. LFA added two more goals in the third for a 5-1 victory. Peter Baldwin took the loss in net for the Indians.
Sunday morning’s action had Lake Forest jump out to a 2-0 lead, in effect scoring seven unanswered goals against the Soo over two games. Kole Altergott put a stop to that streak and cut the LFA lead in half on a feed by Cole Peterson. Early in the second period, Grady Coppo scored off a pass from Altergott and Kevin Smith to even the score at two-apiece. In the third, Seve LItz beat the LFA goaltender on an assist by Curtis Hubbard and JT Gollinger to put the Indians up 3-2. When LFA put on the extra attacker and left an empty net, Kyle Stevens won a battle for the loose puck and scored securing a 4-2 Indians victory with Goff getting the assist. Cam Labadie earned the win in net for the Indians.
Next week the Soo Indians will be in Grand Rapids with games on Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 11am at the Byron Center against Fox Motors.
