Julye Lynn Raycraft, age 61, died on December 24, 2021 in her home in Cedarville, Michigan, due to complications of multiple sclerosis.
Julye was born on December 5, 1960, in Saginaw, Michigan to parents Dale Thomas and Jeanine Cathrine (Brennan) Raycraft. When she was young, she had the spelling of her name legally changed from Julie to Julye—a move which set the tone for a life as unique and individualistic as her name.
Julye spent much of her youth on Mackinac Island, Michigan, where in 1986 she married Robert McGreevy, had two children, and worked as a schoolteacher.
In 1993, Julye heeded the call of the wild woods, and found her home in Cedarville, where she lived for the rest of her days. She loved the small town life, surrounded by friendly neighbors, feeding deer in her backyard, far from the cares of the city.
Always a teacher at heart, Julye spent most of her life working in the local school systems and was happiest working in special education. At home, she raised her children to share her lifelong love of history, literature, and the arts. She also worked hard to nurture strong family ties and spent many happy days visiting relatives near and far, and many evenings reminiscing about the past. Julye had an active and creative mind, reflected in her eclectic interests, whether it was working in her garden, refinishing furniture, camping in Canada, or participating in community theater.
Julye will be remembered fondly for her joyful spirit, her open mind, her bright laughter, her eccentricities and her many gifts.
Julye is survived by her children, Jeanine McGreevy of South Bend, Indiana and Scott (Jessika) McGreevy of Jenison, Michigan; grandchild, Lukas McGreevy; sister, Susanne Leach of Hessel, Michigan; brother, Mike Raycraft of Frankenmoth, Michigan; nieces and nephews, Kyle and Shane Raycraft, Kevin and Stephanie Leach; stepmother, Barb Raycraft; as well as many other dear friends.
Julye is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lynda Brisbois, and brother, Patrick Raycraft.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring on a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julye’s honor to The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation at 6520 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2132.
