Former House Speaker Lee Chatfield is being accused of sexual assault, an attorney for the accuser confirmed this evening.
The Lansing City Pulse first reported the accusations.
Jamie White, a Lansing attorney representing the accuser, confirmed that a criminal complaint was filed with the Lansing Police Department containing allegations of sexual assault against Mr. Chatfield.
The accuser said the assaults began when she was a teenager.
Lansing police did not immediately return a request for comment. The City Pulse reported the complaint was transferred to the Department of State Police. An MSP spokesperson also did not immediately return a request for comment.
Mr. Chatfield served as House speaker for the 2019-20 term. After he left office he briefly served as CEO for Southwest Michigan First in Kalamazoo before resigning amid anger at his selection given his stance on expanding the state’s civil rights law to include LGBT people.
