State Police Announce Two U.P. Promotions

MARQUETTE, MICH.    The Michigan State Police is proud to announce the promotions of Sgt. Edward Zawada to the Calumet Post and Sgt. Adam Laninga to the Sault Ste. Marie Post. 

Sgt. Edward Zawada

Sergeant Zawada joins the Calumet Post where he will oversee the day-to-day operations of MSP services to the Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw County areas.  Sgt. Zawada is a graduate of the 121st Trooper Recruit School, graduating in 2008.  After graduation, he was assigned to the Calumet Post where he spent several years handling traffic and criminal incidents.  He was also a member of the Emergency Support Team and the UPSET Narcotics Enforcement Team.  Sgt. Zawada is originally from Bark River Michigan.

Sgt Adam Laninga

Sergeant Laninga joins the Sault Ste. Marie Post where he will oversee the day-to-day operations of MSP services to the Chippewa and Luce County areas.  Sgt. Laninga is also a graduate of the 121st Trooper Recruit School.  After graduation, he was assigned to the Lanse Post where he spent several years handling traffic and criminal incidents.  In 2011, he transferred to the Sault Ste. Marie Post where he continued to work as a uniform trooper.  Sgt. Laninga is an advanced accident investigator, firearms instructor, and field training officer.  Sgt. Laninga is originally from Mackinaw City Michigan and is a second-generation MSP sergeant.  His father, Sgt. Ken Laninga, retired from the St. Ignace Post in 2010.
