Vincent Rodger Klamerus, age 81, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan, on February 14, 2022. He was born on March 24, 1940, in Goetzville, Michigan to Frank and Helen (Zwolinski) Klamerus.
Vince grew up in Goetzville and graduated from Detour High School. He married the love of his life, Ruth on May 4th, 1963, later moving to Drummond Island. He began working as an equipment operator in his family business at an early age, before establishing and operating numerous businesses. He worked as an insurance agent with John Hancock Life Insurance Company, owned and operated Wa-Wen Resort on Drummond Island for 12 years with his wife Ruth, and was most well-known for his time spent operating Vince Klamerus Excavating throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula for 30 years. He also owned and operated Sune’s Food Center in DeTour Village with Ruth for many years.
Vince was an active member of his community, as a lifetime member of the DI Lions Club, DI Snowmobile club, and volunteer at many community events throughout the years.
Vince loved to travel and explore new places throughout his life and took many boating and snowmobiling trips with Ruth and his family and friends. He continued to travel and experience new places late in life, always taking time to stop and meet new people, learn about them, and create new friendships along the way. Vince loved his family and enjoyed visiting every chance he could, spending endless hours teaching, fishing, telling stories, and listening to their experiences as his family grew. He was beloved and will be greatly missed by all.
Vince is survived by his daughter, Wendi (Scott) Boger; daughter-in-law, Janis (Paul) Gratowski; sisters, Jeanne Klamerus, Kathleen Klamerus, Frances (Mike) Rairigh, brothers, Robert (Theresa) Klamerus, David (Sharon) Klamerus; sister in-law Ann Schultz; brother in-law Sune E. (Carol) Bucht; grandchildren, Janelle (William) Hurles, Nathan (Jessica) Klamerus, and Matthew Gratowski; and great grandchildren, Owen, Harper, Mason, and Camden.
Vince was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth B. Klamerus; son, Vincent Wade Klamerus; parents, Frank and Helen Klamerus; sister, Sally Klamerus; parent in-laws Sune and Hilka Bucht; brother in-law Carl (Bonnie) Bucht.
A graveside service and interment will be at Drummond Island Township Cemetery on Drummond Island, Michigan, in the spring of 2022.
