Barbara Ann (Cassibo) Curtis, age 73, of St. Ignace peacefully passed away in her home February 20, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Barbara was born June 4, 1948 in St. Ignace to Alexander and Charlotte (Cadreau) Cassibo. She grew up living on Mackinac Island with her sisters Phyllis Lee Schmidt and Gloria Jean Feller. While living on the island she attended the Thomas W. Ferry School where she met her B.F.F. Jen Glashaw.
In 1966 after graduating from LaSalle High School in St. Ignace Barbara began working on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel where she met her husband, Richard Armstrong Curtis. Barbara went on to have three children Heidi Joy, James Edward and Rory Armstrong. Richard and Barbara later moved to Port Huron, Michigan and purchased their family home where they lived happily until Richard’s last days.
Barbara (Shungwaywaygobokwe) was a proud elder of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She loved her heritage, coloring, gardening in the sun, taking photos of her loved ones, spontaneous road-trips, singing along to her favorite tunes, deserts, and
most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, parents, sisters and nephew Alex Cassibo.
Barbara is survived by her children and their families, Heidi and Wayne Pearce of St. Ignace, James and Mari Curtis of Port Huron, and Rory Curtis of Port Huron. Her grandchildren Brian and Arielle, Richard, Nicole, Alyson, Morgan and Jillian. Her great-grandchildren Kaiden, Mila and Kendrick.
