Jennifer E. “Jen” Veum, 48, of Brimley, passed away at White Wiles Assisted Living Hospice Care in Rudyard on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
Born on November 24, 1973, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI she was a daughter of Ronald and Ellen (Myers) Meister. Jen graduated from Sault High in the class of 1991, and then attended her undergraduate studies at Lake State University and finishing her graduate studies and receiving her degrees at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids. She was first employed at Bahweting Elementary School and then Soo Area Public Schools. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching and spending time with her young students and missed them immensely when she retired. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking and was passionate about spending time on her boat with friends on Mackinac Island. She was a huge fan of the “Monkees” and attended many concerts and amassed a prized collection of albums and memorabilia.
Jen is survived by her husband Michael T. Veum of Brimley, whom she married in the Soo on December 27, 2003; her father and step-mother Ronald and Lisa Meister of Brimley; her mother Ellen Meister of Sault Ste. Marie, siblings: Ryan (Mary Frances) Meister of Greenville, S.C., Allison (Gordon) Campbell of Sault Ste. Marie, and Gillian (Shane) Meister-Reister of Grand Rapids. Her grandmother Florence Meister and nieces and nephews Chase, Riley, and Tinsley Meister; her god son Callen Campbell, and Madeleine and Parker Rutledge and Taylor and Austin Veum. Also surviving are several Aunts and Uncles and her Brother -in-law Todd (Shannon) Veum and sister-in-law Tammy Rutledge, all of Sault Ste. Marie. She will also be missed by her faithful companion Reagan.
The family will receive friends and guests at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Services will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Henderson officiating In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be extended to Hospice of EUP or the Cowell Family Cancer Center in Traverse City.
