Today, March 30, 2022, Bob joined his Savior, family, and the love of his life in heaven.
Born in Whitefish Pte., Michigan on August 31, 1934, to the late Albert and Irene (House) Hutton. Bob graduated from Sault Area High School in 1954. He immediately went to work for United States Steel Great Lakes Shipping. Through hard work and dedication to his education, Bob earned his Chief Engineer license in 1987. From 1957-1959 he was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Germany. The rest of his life was spent on the Great Lakes 1954-1998 he retired as the Chief Engineer on the Phyllip R. Clarke.
After his retirement Bob spent all his time with his LaVerne, except during Cranberry Harvesting time in Whitefish Pointe. Bob’s grandparents owned the House Cranberry bog and every fall the family would go to Whitefish Pte to help flood the bogs and gather the cranberries. At the end of the harvest, he would bring fresh cranberries home to LaVerne and she would bake up all his favorite recipes.
We were blessed to have Bob in our lives. He was a very generous man who would help anyone in need. Never asking for anything in return. He loved spending time with family. His great-grandchildren adored their “Papa Bob”
He will be greatly missed by his amazing caregiver Pam(granddaughter) She filled his days with wonderful memories, challenges, and fun.
Bob is survived by his children: Delores (Scott) Kivi, Charles Johnson, Floyd (Heidi) Johnson all of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. Grandchildren: Patrick, Joshua, Brenda, Jeanie, and Joelle. Great-grandchildren: Sophia, Devin, Garrison, Johnathan, Josephine, Marie, Lawren, Danika and Korbin.
