Beverly “Bev” Joy (Rye) Waybrant, age 82, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2022, in Petoskey, Michigan, after a long battle with kidney failure. She was born on November 11, 1939, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Howard and Bertha (Wonnocott) Rye.
Bev grew up in Pickford, Michigan, where she attended Pickford High School. She met Nyle Lee Waybrant Sr. after he returned to the area from military service, and they quickly fell in love. The couple married in Pickford on November 10, 1956, and started their family. Beverly raised her five children for many years before starting work at the Les Cheneaux area schools in Cedarville, Michigan, as a secretary. She loved her work and became the school Librarian after a few years.
Bev was a very crafty woman and would spend hours working on her plastic canvas crafts, card making or scrapbooking. She was also an avid reader and loved her romance novels. She loved her family deeply and took pride in being a grandmother. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Bev is survived by her children: Sharyll Waybrant of St. Ignace, Nyla (Jim) Pitsch of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Dalaine (Tony Dumas)Waybrant of St. Ignace, and Nyle Waybrant Jr of Cedarville; Grandchildren: David Carty, Timothy (Ashley) Carty, Skylar (Blake Kosobucki) Dumas, Jennifer Flagstadt and fiancé John Bizeau, and Rebecca (Charlie) Heustess; Great Grandchildren: Tyler (Hannah Niemojuski) Carty, Trinity (Gabe Whatley) Earle, Tayvia Earle, Breckyn Earle, Hunter Carty, Dylan Carty, Jameson Carty, Camden Carty, Christopher Gregoire, and Alec Heustess; Great-great grandson: Lathan Fusco; Sister: Bonnie Leach of Pickford; Brother-in-law: Freddie Davis of North Carolina; and Sister-in-law: Connie Waybrant of Cedarville, as well as many beloved friends and family.
Bev is preceded in death by her husband: Nyle Lee Waybrant, Sr; parents: Howard Vincent and Bertha Amelia Rye; in-law’s: Albert and Lucy Waybrant; daughter: Mitzi Chapla; brother: Howard Rye II; Sisters: Avis Davis and Virgene Stevenson; brothers-in-law: Wayne Waybrant, Gene Waybrant, Ron Stevenson, Chuck Huff, Loren Wisner and Jim Beacom; sisters-in-law: Ruby Hamel, Alice Huff, Alberta Beacom and Phyllis Wisner; son-in-law: Ricky Chapla; great granddaughter: Amber Mastey.
Memorial Gathering will be held on April 4, 2022, at Galer Funeral Home in Pickford starting at 10:30 AM with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:30 AM. A luncheon will take place following the service.
Memorial donations in Bev’s memory may be left to the family to aide with funeral expenses.
