Rebeka “Regina” Huskey, 92, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI passed away Thursday April 14, 2022 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She was born April 16, 1929 in Wilno, Poland the youngest daughter of Wulf and Eva Rachman. Rebeka’s entire family perished in the Holocaust. She was the only survivor of World War II labor camps. Rebeka was divorced from her first husband, Wolf Brauner, and was widowed by her second husband Robert E. Huskey who passed away in 1985.
Rebeka owned several restaurants in Germany from 1946 – 1959. After coming to the United States she worked at Sears in Chicago and after moving to Sault Ste. Marie was a cashier and night auditor at the Delmar. She was very active in volunteer work most of her life. She collected from door to door for the Cancer Fund and Volunteered at the Health Department. Rebeka was elected President of the VFW 3676 Auxiliary twice and was also treasurer and secretary for 20 years.
Per Rebeka’s wishes there will be no viewing. There will be a graveside service at Donaldson cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VFW 3676 Auxiliary, 410 W Portage Ave Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 or MyMichigan Health Auxiliary, 500 Osborn Blvd Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, in Rebeka’s name. Clark Hovie Galer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
