William Lyle “Bill” Mason, age 86, of Kinross, MI passed away on March 31, 2022, at his home following a battle with cancer.
Bill was born on May 30, 1935, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Lyle and Esther (McCready) Mason. He graduated from Sault High School with the class of 1953. Bill attended Northern Michigan University where he earned his bachelor’s degree. On March 17, 1956, he married Marlene “Monie” Murphy in St. Ignace, MI. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post #3. He was also a lifetime member of the horseshoe association – EUPHPA. Bill taught at Rudyard High School for the majority of his career, teaching industrial arts and driver’s education. Bill enjoyed woodworking, playing fast pitch softball, horseshoes, country music, and watching sports. He was a fan of all Michigan teams.
Bill is survived by his four children: Kelly (Grant) Dane of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Tracy (Jesse) Dennis of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma, Shannon (Joe) St. Andrew of Cheboygan, MI, and Patrick Mason of Kinross, MI; six grandchildren: Marlene, Heather, Dustin, Megan, Keely, and Matthew: six great-grandchildren: Jarron, Alison, Isaac, Dylan, Ayla, and Nicole; and a brother: Larry (Ampy) Mason of McComb, Mississippi.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Monie and two brothers, Robert Mason, and Charles Mason.
At Bill’s request, there are no public services planned. Donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Hospice of the EUP.
