Sault Ste. Marie, MI — Effective Monday, June 6th at 7:00am, Payne & Dolan will begin
the 3 Mile Road reconstruction project.
The project area will be from the roundabout to M-129 and will consist of crushing existing
bituminous pavement surface, adding two inches of aggregate to the crushed material
while shaping the new aggregate base course, then applying 3.5 inches of hot mix
asphalt pavement surface in two courses over the new aggregate base course.
The project will also include improvements to shoulders, adjusting the final grade of
existing driveways to blend in with the raised road surface, guardrail work, permanent
signage, and pavement markings.
The project starts June 6th with mobilization and end on or before July 11, 2022. See
attached map for location and barricades. Traffic will be reduced to 1-way traffic
leading from the Roundabout going East to M-129. Walmart and Fernelius have
graciously agreed to close their 3 Mile access driveways to expedite construction.
Two adjacent property-owner letters were previously sent out in February and May and
an adjacent property owner meeting will be held at City Hall on May 24th to mitigate any
issues. The City appreciates the cooperation of all area residents and motorists during
this construction activity. For any questions regarding this project please contact the City
Engineering Department at 632-5734 as well as follow our Facebook page @SSMCity.
