Marna McGahey

Marna Marie McGahey, age 86, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI passed away on April 29, 2022, at War Memorial Hospital.

Marna was born on May 8, 1935, in Sault Ste. Marie to the late Russell and Pearl (Leask) Payment. She graduated from Loretto High School with the class of 1953. On November 28, 1953, she married Clayton McGahey at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Marna was a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Her children and grandchildren were everything to her. She enjoyed spending time with them and her nieces and nephews. Marna collected angels. She also enjoyed flower gardens, going for rides, and family Sunday dinners. She loved her dog: Sassy.

Marna is survived by her husband: Clayton McGahey, Sr.; her children: Clayton McGahey, Jr., Randy (Judy) McGahey, and Kimberly (Jeff) Cairns all of Sault Ste. Marie, Kevin McGahey of Hessel, and Karla (Mike) McLeod, of Kincheloe; a daughter-in-law: Kathy McGahey of Sault Ste. Marie; her grandchildren; Justin & Keane Cairns, Jenna (RJ) Vandermate, Lance (Anne) Jordan, Michaela, Paige & Noah McLeod, Jennifer (David) Berg, Nick, Hannah, Samuel, Lindsey, Brandon, Tyler, Nicolette, Teia, Devin( Laura) Kyle, Sean, Kalin, Kelsey, Sunisa McGahey, Stephanie (Jaylon) Pratt , Cassie Kittle, and 12 great-grandchildren. Marna is also survived by three siblings: Russell (Camille) Payment, Jr. of Sault Ste. Marie, Delores Hall of New Baltimore, and Gary (Lois) Payment of MN. A special aunt: Albertina Perry. And some very special nieces who were like her own daughters.

Marna was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: Stephen McGahey and Donald McGahey; two sisters, and four brothers.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Chenier as celebrant. Burial will be later this year at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
