Ruth Ann (Fountain) Hudak, age 82, of DeTour Village, Michigan, died at Harbor View Assisted Living in DeTour, on May 7, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 27, 1939, on Drummond Island, Michigan, to Lewis Clark and Leah Mae (Seaman) Fountain.
Ruth Ann grew up in DeTour Village and graduated from DeTour High School. She worked on Drummond Island and then had her son, Donald Murray Hudak. While working in Sault Ste. Marie she met Ronald “Joe” Hudak. They married on October 10, 1964, and she became a military wife, working various types of jobs in Cheboygan, Michigan; Traverse City, Michigan; Ketchikan, Alaska; Miami, Florida; Kodiak, Alaska and Governor’s Island, New York. Ruth Ann and Ronald retired in Ketchikan, Alaska on October 1, 1980. They moved back to DeTour Village, where they built their home on her grandparent’s property. She worked as a treasurer for the Village for nineteen years and Fisher’s Restaurant while she helped raise her three grandsons.
Ruth Ann was an active member of the First Union Presbyterian Church in DeTour Village as a Clerk of Session for twelve years and an elder for four years and was an active volunteer in the Church Bazaar. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer at the local museum. She was a first responder for the DeTour Ambulance Corp as well.
Ruth Ann enjoyed canning, baking and arts and crafts. She loved spending time with her grandsons and was their Boy Scout leader. She was an avid Raider fan and attended all of her grandson’s sporting events. She was always involved with her community and her family.
Ruth Ann is survived by her husband, Ronald Hudak; grandchildren, Andon (Melissa) Hudak of South Hampton, New Jersey and Blaine (Alisha) Hudak of Wesley Chapel, Florida; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hudak of DeTour Village, Michigan; great grandchildren, Austin, Ava, Andon, Minka, Ella and Jaxson; brothers, Murray (Verna) Fountain of DeTour Village, Michigan and Robert “Bobby” Fountain of Owosso, Michigan; sisters, Linda (George) Rousseau of Belding, Michigan and Marlene (Dennis) Golovich of Charlevoix, Michigan; brother-in-law, Raymond Woods of DeTour Village, Michigan and sister-in-laws, Charlene Fountain of DeTour Village, Michigan; Dorothy Hudak of Cheboygan, Michigan and Ann Marie (Dave) McCormick of Cheboygan, Michigan. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Ruth Ann is preceded in death by her son, Donald Murray Hudak; parents, Lewis and Leah Fountain; grandson, Donald “DJ” Hudak; sister, Janice Woods; brother, Russell Fountain and sister-in-law, Diane Fountain.
Also, is preceded in death by her husband’s parents, Clarence and Margaret Hudak; sister/brother-in-laws, Theresa and Carl Brasseur; Patricia and William St. Amour; Edward C and Emily Hudak, and Russell Hudak.
A Memorial Gathering will be held for Ruth Ann and her son, Donald Hudak at the Union Presbyterian Church in DeTour Village on Saturday, May 28 with the opportunity to pay condolences to the family from 11:00 AM to 12 Noon. A Memorial Service to follow at 12 Noon with Pastor Dave Henderson officiating.
Final resting place will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour Village.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the EUP, 308 W. 12th Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 and/or Harbor View Assisted Living, 200 Cunningham, DeTour Village, MI 49725.
The family would like to thank the War Memorial Hospital staff, Harbor View staff and Hospice staff for all the wonderful care given to Ruth Ann during her stay.
