Kelly Smart

Kelly Jean Smart, age 54, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at her home.

Kelly was born on September 18, 1967, in Lansing, Michigan to the late Raleigh and Louise (LaBranche) Fournier.  She was a graduate of Sault High School with the class of 1985. Kelly was a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She enjoyed camping and taking walks, but most of all, spending time with her grandbabies.

Kelly is survived by her husband: Richard Smart, whom she married on May 28, 1988, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI; and her daughters: Erika (Danny) Quintana, Kaylene Smart, and Jillian Smart all of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; and five grandchildren: Kolyn, Steven, Maria, Zackeri, and Waylon. Kelly is also survived by her siblings: Lisa Fournier and Benji Fournier both of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

Kelly was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Raleigh “Sam” Fournier.A memorial gathering will start at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Niigaanagiizhik Cultural Center.  The memorial ceremony will begin that same day at 1:00 PM with a luncheon to follow.  (Please bring a dish to pass.)  All are welcome to join the family for burial the next day, Friday, July 8, 2022, at 7:00 PM at Will Walk Cemetery on Sugar Island.
