Sandra Sue Causley, age 66, of Goetzville, Michigan, died at home on July 4, 2022. She was born in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, on July 6, 1955.
Sandra grew up in Cedarville and Hessel, Michigan. She moved to Lansing, Michigan, at age 17, and married Perry James Causley on December 28, 1974. She worked in various places while raising her children before working for the Lansing School District until retirement. After retiring in 2018, she and Perry moved back to the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
Sandra enjoyed bird watching, swimming, and spending time out in nature. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Her love for her family was all-encompassing; she was routinely trying to find ways to bring everyone together. Happy to host a cookout, attend games and competitions of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and make time to visit local family and friends. For many years, she also took care of her mother prior to her passing in 2020.
She was sweet as can be, yet sassy, and didn’t pull any punches. When she loved you, you knew it – you felt it every time you were around her. She had a special knack for making everyone feel like they were her favorite because, in her own way, they were. Sandy was deeply ingrained in Native culture and traditions and spent much time and many years at Pow-Wows, lunches at the Tribal Center, and with cousins who were much more like her sisters and brothers.
Since her retirement, Sandy’s life has been filled with making memories to last a lifetime including the opportunity to enjoy the freedom of having worked hard her whole life. To raise a family, to be a wife and grandmother, to hold a career, and to have made an impact in so many lives.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Perry Causley; sons, Tom Causley of Cedarville, and Brad (Monique) Causley of Cedarville; daughter, Tonya (Layne) Causley-Ingram of Lansing; brother, Dale (Jodi) Gough; brother-in-law, Steve Hancock; grandchildren, Brad (Jordan) Causley Jr., Elysia Causley, Kayla Vandermeer, Avery Vandermeer, and Cassandra Causley; great-grandchildren, Carter and Brynn Causley; nieces, Veronica and Kristi Gough; and nephews, Burton Gough, and Charlie Hancock.
Sandra is preceded in death by her father, Burton Gough; mother, Barbara Hriniak; and sister, Laurie Hancock.
Visitation will be held on Friday July 8, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. at Galer Funeral Homes & Cremation, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will also be held Saturday, July 9, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, also at the funeral home followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Burial will take place at Italian Maplewood Cemetery in Clark Township, Michigan.
