Barbara Lee Bergum

Barbara Lee (Myers) Bergum, age 90, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died on July 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 11, 1931, to parents Homer Lonzelle and Pearle (Bowser) Myers.

Barb grew up mainly in Detroit but spent five years of her childhood in Pennsylvania. She graduated from East Detroit High and married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Bruce Bergum while he was in the Navy. She raised her four children in the suburbs of Detroit and returned to the workforce in the late 1960s when the kids were old enough and worked for Kelly Services. She later became an Office Manager for Reef Industries, where she spent the next twenty-some years. She retired in 1993 but began traveling with Ron all over the country and in 2006 she worked a short time a Meijer as a sample distributor. Barb permanently moved in 2008 to Drummond Island after the death of Ronald (2000), where they have a vacation home they visited frequently.

Barb was a member of the Drummond Island Baptist Church, DAR member, an active member of the Drummond Island Lions Club, and Drummond Island Homemakers. In the past was a member of the Fraser Schools PTA and volunteered at the Senior Center of Macomb County.

Barb enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, hunting, golfing, gardening, and cooking. She liked playing cards and was an avid book reader. Most of all she loved being a grandma and spending time with all her family.

Barb is survived by her children, Suzanne (Karl) Ziarko of Frankfort, Illinois, Ronald (Deborah) Bergum of Sebastian, Florida, Keith (Evelyn) Bergum of Drummond Island, and Craig (Cheryl) Bergum of Sterling Heights, Michigan; grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Bergum, Danielle (Timothy) Hurley, Christopher Bergum, Amber Ziarko, Karl Ziarko, Melissa Bergum and Jacob Bergum; great-grandchildren, Grayson Bergum, Cecilia Bergum, Brooklyn Arndt, and Jamison Hurley.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Pearle; husband, Ronald; and partner, Dale Graves.

Donations in Barbara’s memory may be left to the Drummond Island Baptist Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Drummond Island Baptist Church on August 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
