Betty Mae (France) Fenlon, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away at the age of 87 in Petoskey, Michigan. She was born May 30, 1935, to parents Leonard Francis and Stella (LaPlaunte) France in St. Ignace.
Betty grew up in her hometown of St. Ignace where she attended high school and worked at her parents’ Ferry Lane Motel and France Grocery. After graduation, she married James D. Fenlon and had three children, Patrick, Shaun and James II. Betty traveled the country for James’ work and grew a true love of traveling and seeing the world. This would stay with her all her life. At the young age of twenty-eight, Betty became a widow and raised the children by herself. She was an incredibly hard worker and after years of working as a cashier at the A&P store, Betty became a welder for General Motors. After retirement from General Motors, Betty fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to Great Falls, Montana. Betty left Montana returning home to be closer to her grandchildren.
Betty was someone that was always on the go and never seemed to skip a beat. She had a love of traveling and seeing the country. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is survived by her children, Patrick, Shaun, and James II; grandchildren, Jim (Ashley) Fenlon, Josh (Josh) Fenlon, Jayson (Kayla) Fenlon, Jared Fenlon, and Jacob Fenlon; great grandchildren, Nora and Jerret; sisters, Ruth McCord and Mary Erikson; and niece, Kelly Moran.
Betty is preceded by her husband, James; parents, Leonard and Stella; siblings, Irma, Pete, Clyde, Gloria (Kissa), Frank, and Leonard (Butch).
Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Saint Ignace. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
Betty will be laid to rest beside her brothers and sisters in St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
