Gregory John Becker of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away on August 13, 2022, at Mackinac Straits Hospital at the age of 66 years old. He was born on November 18, 1955, in St. Ignace to parents Norman J. and Ellen Faye (Paulson) Becker.
Greg grew up in St Ignace with his five brothers. He graduated from LaSalle High School and married the love of his life, Patti Sue Ritzert on May 1st, 1982. They moved to Pontiac, Michigan, where they stayed for the next twenty years and had three sons, Brad, Josh, and Garrett. During this time, Greg managed a skylight manufacturing company. When the boys were teenagers, the family moved back to St. Ignace and Greg started working in construction as a licensed building contractor. He helped build many residential and commercial properties over the years.
To say Greg had a passion for building would be to put it mildly. He loved to build and had an amazing eye for detail. He took pride in the work he did and found great fulfillment in creating quality buildings. He was also an avid bird hunter and fisherman. During fishing seasons, it wasn’t uncommon for Greg to come home with a 5-gallon bucket full of perch. Greg loved his family and took great pride in being a grandpa to four wonderful granddaughters. He leaves behind many who will miss him.
Greg is survived by his wife of forty years, Patti; sons, Brad (Lidia), Josh (Aimee), and Garrett; granddaughters, Jordyn, Tenley, Piper, and Lailah; mother, Ellen, and his five brothers, Terry (Carol), Mort (Holly), Kevin (Jodie), Brian, and John “Zeke”.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Norman J. Becker.
Memorial services will take place at Galer Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace on August 18, 2022. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM followed by the Memorial Service at 2PM. There will be a luncheon following the service from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Moose Lodge and the family invites everyone to come & share their memories of Greg.
