Jack Allen Wartella, age 75, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on August 6, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born on August 4, 1947, in Waxahachie, Texas, to parents Harold John and Mary Elaine (Kennedy) Wartella.
Jack moved to St. Ignace as a young boy and spent his youth growing up in the Straits of Mackinac. He attended LaSalle High School for a short time before joining the U.S. Army. After serving a year, he would then go on to become a U.S. Marine and served for the next six years. Jack was an accomplished welder and had started his own business, Wartella Welding Inspection Home, in recent years.
Jack was the Vice President of the Soo Pilots Association.
Jack loved fishing out on the lake and spending time with his family. He would often volunteer at the Soo Pilots Association making lunches for the attendees. He also had an affinity for painting & sketching and had recently painted a portrait of a swan for his granddaughter. Jack loved his family and being a granddad. He will be greatly missed by many who loved him.
Jack is survived by his children, Katherine (Rich) Frazier of St. Ignace, Michigan, Jacqueline (Larry) Postma of Rudyard, Michigan, and Ann (Davy) Folkersma of Rudyard; seven grandchildren, Kayla (Cody), Kensie, Justin, Cassy, Laurynn, Jon (Angela), and Kaity (Noah) and one great-granddaughter, Evelynn; brother, Harold John Wartella; nephews, Johnny, Matthew, and Mark, as well as many dear friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Harold; and his first wife, Deborah.
Memorials made in Jack’s memory may be left to the Young Eagles Association.
