John Alan Grove, age 65, of Hessel, Michigan, passed away on July 29, 2022, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born in Bay City, Michigan, on March 3, 1957, to parents, John Earl and Gladys Marie (Doan) Grove.
John grew up in Hessel and graduated from Cedarville High School. Immediately after he started working in the construction field for ten years. He met Joanie R. Maleport in the spring of 1976. They fell in love and were married on August 27, 1977, spending 44 years together. John oversaw the maintenance of multiple hotels over the course of twenty-four years. He retired in 2015 but kept himself very busy over the last few years.
John was a great outdoorsman. He loved deer hunting and walleye fishing, walking through the woods foraging for morel mushrooms, keeping a garden, and feeding deer that visited his backyard. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, rarely missing a game.
John’s greatest love was his family, especially his grandkids. John cherished every moment he had and would do anything for them.
John is survived by his wife, Joanie Grove; sons, Jeremy (Tiffany) Grove of Sault Ste. Marie, and Justin (Nicole) Grove of Hessel; grandchildren, Eric Grove, Hailey Grove, Morgan O’Dell, Garret O’Dell, Aubrey (Gavin) Reed, and Madeline Grove; great-grandchild, Brynlee Reed; sisters, Gladys (Sy) Syring of Kinross, Pam (Gary) Ballard of Hessel, Wanda (Howard) Sadlak of Bay City, Nancy Brandt of Hessel, Connie Sayles of Hessel, and Linda (Larry) Bartlett of Midland; brothers, Bob Grove of Hessel, Ronald Grove of Hessel, and Paul (Rose) Grove of Hessel; sisters-in-law, Pricilla Grove of Hessel, Karen (Mike) Burns of McFarland, WI, and Diana Maleport of Marquette; brothers-in-law, Gary (Carol) Maleport of Sault Ste. Marie, and Steve Maleport of Sault Ste. Marie; too numerous to count beloved nieces & nephews; great nieces & great nephews and many close friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Grove; brother, Duane Grove, and brothers-in-law, Jim Brandt, Chet Sayles, and John Maleport.
Visitation will be held on August 4, 2022, at Galer Funeral Homes 24549 S. M-129, Pickford, Michigan 49774, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. with the Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 P.M.
Final Resting Place will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
