John Charles Ylimaki, age 80, of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away peacefully August 31, 2022, at the Medilodge of Sault Ste. Marie.
John was born on December 3, 1941, in Grand Marais, Michigan to Elizabeth Selina (Sayen) Ylimaki.
John served his country in both the Navy on the USS Avenge and in the Coast Guard at the Air Station Traverse City, MI. John worked as a Merchant Marine out of Alabama for 15 years. Then, he worked on a 13-story condo running wire for a few years. John also worked as a meat cutter in Traverse City for many years before ending up back in Grand Marais. He was well known for being a hard worker.
John is survived by his sister: Dianne House of Sault Ste. Marie; his nieces; Brenda (Mike Doud) Perry of Sault Ste. Marie, Dawn (Rob Dumas) Knox of Escanaba; and his great nieces and nephews; Dakota, Brent, Destini, and Ella. He is also survived by a lifelong friend: Dave Bailey of Texas:
John is preceded in death by his mother, and sister: Joan Schurch. Proceeded in death by Uncle Oiva, and Aunt Irene Ylimaki of GM, where they enjoyed a lot of time together.
According to John’s wishes, Celebration of Life, will be held on a later date. Contributions to offset cremation and medical expenses, would be appreciated in care of Brenda Perry.
