Soo Indians drop first two games of 2022-23 season

The Soo Indians opened up their 2022-23 Midget AAA Hockey Season on September 3, 2022 at the Taffy Abel Arena hosting the Green Bay Bobcats.

Being the first game, both teams were nervous and played a little slow in the opening period with neither team able to score. In the second, however, Green Bay lost their nervousness and started to put their game together scoring three unanswered goals. The Indians fought back hard in the third. Ethan Chambers found the net on the powerplay setup by Sabre Koleber and Drew Dellies. Later in the period Evan Hogland brought the Soo within one on a breakaway feed from Scott Vanderhoff. Late in the game, Green Bay capitalized on a bad bounce and scored an empty net goal to solidify the 4-2 win. Justin Bamberger had duties between the pipes and suffered the loss.

In Sunday morning’s follow-up game, Green Bay racked up a two goal lead in the first and added another in the second to take a 3-0 lead before the tribe was able to answer with their own set of three unanswered goals. Evan Hogland scored form Sabre Koleber; Drew Dellies scored a powerplay goal from Cael Bolton and Scott Vanderhoff stole the puck while on the penalty kill and beat the Green Bay goaltender to tie the game at 3 apiece after two periods. Late in the third, Green Bay capitalized on a powerplay, and eventual game winner, for a final score of 4-3. Cam Labadie carried the duties in net for the Soo.

Next action will be next weekend in Troy Michigan for the Tier 1 showcase where they will face the Oakland Jr Grizzilies, Little Caesars, and the Chicago Mission.
