Lula Swetz, age 82, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died September 14, 2022, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on May 3, 1940.
At the age of 14, Lu went to live with her grandparents and graduated in 1957 from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw. Lu was active in Saginaw Girl Scouts and St. Paul Episcopal Church, Saginaw, where she sang in the choir. After high school, at age 19, Lu joined the United States Army where she served for five years. Her overseas service was in Germany.
Lu moved to Drummond Island in the late 1970’s, and worked for various employers including Sune’s Grocery, Tom Monahan’s resort, and for over 20 years as a housekeeper for several families on the island. In 2011, Lu moved to a nursing home in Sault Ste. Marie.
Lu is survived by a loving niece, Susan Langdon, and several nephews.
Lu was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim and Nick Walker; parents, Alice and Morley Walker, and her grandparents.
Lula’s final resting place will be Drummond Island Cemetery on Drummond Island.
