Scott Michael Nason, age 48, passed unexpectedly on September 29, 2022. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on July 13,1974 as the first child of Roy and Janet (Sutherland) Nason. Scott was the proud father of two young boys, Vance and Liam Nason, and he married the love of his life, Becky (Schwesinger) Nason, on August 1, 2020. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, son, brother and uncle who lit up any event with family and friends.
Scott graduated from Sault Area High School in 1992 and later joined the United States Navy. During his service he was stationed in Millington, Tennessee and then Cornwall, England. After his honorable discharge, Scott returned to Sault Ste. Marie and obtained a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a major in history from Lake Superior State University in 2011. Scott worked several jobs in the Soo area community before becoming the Water’s Edge Clubhouse Director of Hiawatha Behavioral Health. Scott was also very active in the community by holding several positions past and present, such as Sault Area Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Chippewa County Board of Canvassers, Sault Amateur Hockey Board Member, and participated in several volunteer organizations and events.
Scott did not shy away from public speaking and was able to bring a smile to any audience with his humor and bright personality. In addition to his work and community service, Scott had an infectious love of sports. Scott found joy in channeling this into sports broadcasting, radio and podcasting. He took great pride in his role as founder and co-host of The Game Sports Show, which covered local, regional, and national sports news. His voice has reached many people in the community, whether or not they knew him personally.
Scott is survived by his wife, Becky Nason of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; sons, Vance Nason and Liam Nason of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; father and mother, Roy and Janet Nason of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; sister, Nicole (Jyot) Soni of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; brother Kurt Nason of Marquette, Michigan; godmother and aunt, Carey (Nason) Rapin of Alpena, Michigan; his nephew and niece, Roshan and Sitara Soni,
of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He also leaves behind his father- and mother-in-law Pete and Sonya Schwesinger of Trout Lake, Michigan, his brother- and sister-in-law Charlie and Liz Schwesinger of Brutus, Michigan and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Aili Nason and Harry and Ethel Sutherland. He was also preceded in death by his uncles, Michael W. Sutherland and James Rapin, and his cousin Michael R. Sutherland.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Father Nick Thompson will officiate over the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, Scott’s family has requested that contributions be made to The Vance and Liam Nason Education Fund administered by the Chippewa County Credit Union. Contributions can also made to Hiawatha Behavioral Health on behalf of the Suicide Prevention Coalition.
