SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State University volleyball program (5-24, 4-14 GLIAC) is set to face the Ferris State Bulldogs (21-9, 16-2 GLIAC) in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday. With the exception of the shortened COVID-19 season in which all GLIAC members received a bid to the tournament regardless of standings, this marks the first time since at least 1998 (GLIAC archives lost due to a flood) that the Lakers have earned an appearance in the postseason.
The Bulldogs concluded the regular season with a six-game winning streak to enter the GLIAC Tournament as the league’s top-seeded team. Kaylee Maat runs a balanced offense with a GLIAC-leading 1213 assists, averaging 10.83 assists per set.
The Bulldogs have won all six sets against the Lakers in the regular season, but Lake State has proven that they can compete with two sets having been decided by only two points. The Lakers travel to Big Rapids, Mich. with the season on the line and the first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
