MIDLAND, Mich. – Applications to the Philip A. Harris Memorial Scholarship at MyMichigan Health are now being accepted for the 2023-2024 school year. Students may access the application online at www.mymichigan.org/harrisscholarship. Applications and support documentation will only be accepted electronically. The deadline for the 2023-2024 school year is Saturday, April 1, 2023.
The Philip A. Harris endowment fund seeks to keep, attract and retain local medical students to the communities served by MyMichigan Health. Eligible applicants must be a third- or fourth-year medical school students who is a first degree relative of a MyMichigan Health employee (active or retiree) at any MyMichigan member location and attending any medical school in or outside of Michigan. Consideration will be given to third- or fourth-year medical students who have completed multiple clerkships at a MyMichigan Health member location.
The $1,000 scholarship was established by the Midland Medical Executive Committee in 2020 combined with gifts from many physicians, nurses, community members and colleagues of Philip Harris, M.D., an otolaryngologist for MyMichigan Medical Group. Dr. Harris was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer in 2016, and passed away in 2020. Henry Haley, a medical student at Central Michigan University, was awarded the inaugural Philip A. Harris Memorial Scholarship in 2021.
