Edward Henry Mills, age 71, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on December 3, 2022. He was born on May 10, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edward Clarence and Grace (Pearo) Mills.
Edward grew up in Detroit and joined the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen. After his return from the service, he moved to Florida and lived there for ten years, and worked as a laborer for several construction companies. He returned to the Eastern Upper Peninsula in 1990 and began working as a cook at various restaurants in the area. Ed retired a few years later to enjoy his hobbies.
Edward loved reading, listening to oldies’ music, and celebrating Christmas and Halloween. He loved to help take care of his niece, Tina, and loved spending time with his great-niece, Olivia, and great-nephew, Dalton, who was his buddy.
Edward is survived by his sisters, Lillian Belonga of St. Ignace, Nancy Morris of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Yvonne Weaver of St. Ignace; brothers, Norman Davenport of Detroit, and Jack Mills of Bellville, Michigan; nephew, Chuck (Kelly) Champion; and many more beloved nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Grace Mills; brother, Albert Davenport; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Belonga and Larry Morris.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Straits Evangelical Free Church, 324 1st Street, in St. Ignace, after the Holidays.
