Patricia “Pat” Evelyn Gilbert of Sault Ste. Marie passed away on November 28th, 2022 at home surrounded by family. She was 81 years old.
Pat was born on September 27th, 1941 in Fort Madison, Iowa but raised in Marinette, Wisconsin. In 1962 she met her husband-to-be Lawrence. Married in June of 1963, they began their life together in Sault Ste. Marie where they remained for nearly 60 years.
Pat devoted her life to her family, raising four children. She enjoyed reading, music, camping, fishing, good food, and gardening. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, spending weeks decorating and getting everything just perfect for the family holidays. She also had a life-long love of animals, having pets of all imaginable types. For many years, she was a helpful employee in the Walmart pet department sharing her expertise. In her later years, she adored her cats most of all, including her beloved Ragdoll, Buster.
She is survived by Lawrence Gilbert, her husband of 59 years; sons Larry, John, and Scott (Jennifer Wood), daughter Kathryn; seven grandchildren; Laura, Karen, Christine, Kenneth, Mary, Nick, and Kelly, four great-grandchildren and her brother Thomas Higdon. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Higdon and Doris Rahlf; her sister Mary (Higdon) Rinaudo, and her father and mother-in-law Dan and Gertrude Gilbert.
Visitation will be December 1, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00am until 11:00am with Mass of Christian Burial immediately to follow with Father Brad Sjoquist officiating. Her final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Patricia’s name to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, 3660 S Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, or Hospice of the EUP, 308 W 12th, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Clark Hovie Galer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
